Polish Post: ALIQUID Lacquer "Maze of Mirrors" and LE "Puppy Love" Swatches & Review

Can you believe we are already over a week into October?  That is CRAZY.  Where the heck did this year go?!  Sure has flown for me - Halloween is only 23 days away, and I have two toddlers to make costumes for - yikes!  I better get crackin'!!

Flying time aside, let's talk about a new-to-me indie nail polish brand called ALIQUID Lacquer!  I love the story behind the company (found here), and I love the polishes even more :)  I have two to show you today - one is from the newly-released Phantom of the Opera themed collection, and the other is a charity polish for the ASPCA.  Let's start with Maze of Mirrors:

Outdoors (It was a bit overcast today)

Indoors

Maze of mirrors is a glitter polish with holographic, black, and blue shreds, as well as holographic hex and square glitters with silver flakies, and a somewhat blue flash/shimmer to it in certain lighting.  Since this is a full-coverage glitter, you only really need 2-3 coats of it on its own for it to be completely opaque.  I chose to use it as a topper over black and white, so you can see what it looks like over a dark and light colored polish.

Application was not too bad - the larger pieces of glitter tended to clump together, though it's tough to find a glitter polish that DOESN'T do that.  It is a thick polish, so it took a little longer to dry, though no longer than about 5 minutes.  I love the look of this polish in all types of lighting, because it is always shifting and sparkling!!  Maze of Mirrors is a really lovely polish I would definitely recommend to all you glitter-lovers out there :)

The second polish is called Puppy Love- check it out:

Outdoors (Not so overcast :P )

Indoors

Puppy Love is a teal blue with pink and gold glitter flecks.  It also has a subtle holographic shimmer in direct sunlight.  I used 3 coats to make it completely opaque, and each went on very smoothly, and dried in under 5 minutes to a shiny finish, though I did add a topcoat in the photos.  Puppy Love is a Limited Edition charity polish in honor of "Adopt a Shelter Dog" month, and will only be available till the end of October.  $5 from every bottle sold will be donated to the ASPCA - what a great cause!!  I'm partial to this charity, because I have two rescue dogs myself :)

Polish Post: Gothic Gala Lacquers "Moon Over Paradise," "Vallis Sanguine," and "Starling" Swatches and Review

I had the pleasure of stumbling upon a smoking discount from the indie brand Gothic Gala Lacquers a few weeks ago, and was able to make a rather large purchase without complete hurting my bank account ;)  I bought 6 colors and was given a FULL SIZE mystery freebie, for under $50 - shipping included.  Jealous yet?  Just wait...  I have 3 of those lovely polishes to show you today!

First up, we have "Moon Over Paradise:"
Outdoors, Indirect Sunlight (darn you, storm clouds!!)

Pardon the tiny air bubbles in this macro - they are NOT from the polish, they are from the crappy topcoat I used (that has now been banished from my collection).

I've been on a glitter-jelly kick lately, dunno what's come over me.  I usually stay away from them because generally, they're not only a pill to applicate, but an even bigger one to remove.  I'm glad I strayed from my usual mindset with this one, though, because it's pretty sweet!

Moon Over Paradise (the version I purchased - there is a choice between black and grey), is a black jelly base with red moons, purple dots and hexes, and a light purple/lavender diamond glitter.  Application wasn't too bad, though I found the larger pieces of glitter needed more persuading to spread out than the others.  I used three coats over my bare nail and felt that made it pretty opaque.  As with most jellies, dry time was a bit longer, so I put on 2 layers of a (crappy) quick-dry topcoat to also even it out.  Because I had 3 thick layers, I had to be pretty tender in handling anything after applying, but after about 10 minutes or so, it was all good.  It's definitely one of the easier glitter bomb jellies I have dealt with yet, and it is really pretty!!

Next up is "Vallis Sanguine:"

Outdoors in Direct Sunlight

Indoors

You all know by now how I feel about holos, so this one was impossible to pass by.  And besides, I didn't have this particular shade in a holo polish yet.  So there! :P

Vallis Sanguine is a beautiful purple/burgundy color with an amazing linear holo shine in the sunlight.  Despite being a red-based polish, I had no issues with staining - none!  Gotta love that!  Application was nice and smooth, and I put on 3 coats in the pictures above with no topcoat.  Dries very quickly to a semi-flat finish.  It's such a lovely shade indoors and outdoors!!  It is a perfect color for Fall, too :)

Last but not least is the gorgeous Limited Edition "Starling:"

Outdoors

Indoors

This polish made my jaw drop when I pulled it out of the box.  It is so much more sparkly in person than I could ever hope to capture on camera, and the colors are soooooo rich!!  By far my favorite polish by this brand, and the fact it is a limited edition and there are still a few left in her shop is astounding.  You need to get on this quick before they are gone - seriously!!

Starling is a gorgeous green and purple mutlichrome with blue and pink microflakie glitters.  Application was really smooth, and took 3 coats for it to be completely opaque.  The polish dries to a shiny finish (no topcoat used in the pics above) in under 5 minutes.  There was no staining with this polish, either, though I haven't really come across any chrome type that does.  This color is so deep and eye catching, it is definitely one to add to any collection, and another one perfect for this Fall season!

NOW are you jealous?  Because you totally should be.  I wouldn't blame you, at all ;)

I am very impressed with these three polishes by this new-to-me brand, and will most definitely be keeping it on my radar!  You would be wise to keep Gothic Gala Lacquers on yours, as well :)  Here are some links to help you do that:

Polish Post: Finger Lickin' Lacquer "Love You," "Octopus," and "Here I Go" Swatches and Review

As Rebecca Black would say - It's Friiiiiiday!!!  TGIF!!  And for those of you celebrating Labor Day, happy 3-day weekend!!  Gotta love those :)

On this lovely Friday I have a fruity post for you!  I'll be showing you three polishes from Finger Lickin' Lacquer's Washed Out Neons collection.  I received a special discount code from this maker for purchasing her product, and wanted some of her new neons to be the first purchase, because I just love their color!!

So without further ado, here is "Love You:"

Because these faded neons look the same in and outdoors, I only took indoor photos for you :)

Love You is a creamy pink that smells like a strawberry daiquiri.  These neons have a very thin formula, and therefore require a few more layers to get it to its best color.  I wore 3 coats of Love You over a solid white base.  If you try to wear these without any sort of solid base coat, you will not achieve opacity - or you will after about 20 or so coats, not too sure :P  But you can do other artsy things with it, like "jelly sandwiches" and "watercolor" nail art.

Considering how many layers I had on, the polish dried fairly quickly.  I was able to put on cuticle oil and rub it in without doing damage to the polish about 15 minutes after applying it.  It was dry to the touch in less than five, but still affected by pressure.  It dried to a nice shiny finish, requiring no top coat.  I did want to note that if you choose to use a topcoat, from my experience, you won't lose the scent of the polish.  I know - crazy!  But I have used 3 different types of topcoats in the past over scented polishes, and the smell always comes through.  Sweet deal, if you ask me ^_^

Next up is "Octopus:"

Octopus has a wonderful grape smell to it, and took 4 coats to achieve the proper color (again, over a white base).  Everything else was the same as Love You - even the dry time despite an extra coat!

The final color I have for you is called "Here I Go:"

Here I Go is my favorite of the three - I just love the baby blue color!!  This polish has a sweet fruit punch scent (sorry I had no fruit punch, but I'm sure green grapes are in it, right? :P ) and also took 4 coats to match the color in the bottle.  Everything is the same as the others, too :)

There are six washed out neons in total.  I wanted to mention that if you wish to have these, but don't want the scent, you can order them unscented!  She offers that option with all polishes that have a scent, it's pretty great!
