The Untried Challenge: Polish Me Silly

Today is my brother's birthday!  I got to spend the morning with him hiking South Mountain ^_^  Now I have to spend the rest of the day getting chores done and taking advantage of the kid-free house (thank you, free babysitters - a.k.a. grandparents!).  But before I get to my duties, let me tell you about the fabulous polish I have to show you today!

The next polish I picked at random from my Untried Stash is by Polish Me Silly and is called "Guilty Pleasure."  It is a glorious multichrome, and I'm not really gonna say much else - I'm gonna let the pictures tell it all:

I love love LOVE the deep purply blue that is the main shade, and all those color shifts?!  Wowza!!  With regards to formula, this polish is spot on - applies very smoothly, opaque in two coats, and dries in under five minutes to a lovely shiny finish.  I have zero qualms with this polish, and looks like I have another hit from my untrieds!

What do you think of this polish?  Are you a fan of chromes and all their shifting glory? :D

See you soon <3

Polish Post: Doctor Lacquer "The Trail of Time" Swatches, Review, & Nail Art

Happy Hump Day!

A few weeks ago, my husband bought me the Chromozones Collection by the indie brand Doctor Lacquer - just cuz he loves me ^_^  Yeah, I'm a pretty lucky gal!!

There are 7 full-sized bottles in the collection, and I also received 3 bonus minis for ordering the full set!  Woo-hoo!!

These chromes are absolutely stunning, and have so many different colors and shifts to each that I decided to break down the collection into separate posts so I don't blow your mind with 16 photos per polish - that's a lotta pics!

So without further ado, let's start with The Trail of Time.

Outdoors

Indoors

Here's a direct description of the polish, taken from the website - it's written so well I wouldn't do it justice to describe this polish in my own words:

The Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA offers an incomparable experience and a breathtaking view for anyone! This trail of time was carved by the Colorado River, and shows us million years of history. This divine beauty shifts through the color of rocks and soil, plus the sky and setting sun! This one has strong shifts from shades of cyan, violet, and red, and subtle copper shifts!

This polish is absolutely stunning!!  The application was fantastic, too - very smooth, took three thin coats to achieve opacity.  Dried in under five minutes to a nice shine as seen in the pictures above.  The only aspect of the polish to be conscious of is the fact that you can subtly see brush strokes in application, so make sure you're applying it in the same direction.

There are so many wonderful color shifts to The Trail of Time it was impossible not to stare constantly at my nails :D  I tried to capture the different shifts the best I could in these photos.  I will have a video posted later today on my Instagram showing the color changes as the light shifts, so keep an eye out!

While the color itself is inspired by the Grand Canyon, I was inspired to paint a Dali-esque interpretation of the name of this polish, The Trail of Time - check it out:

Hard to tell in the pics, but those "blob" looking things in the top left are "melted" clocks.  Eh, it's art :P

I will have another lovely polish from this fabulous collection to show you next week!  Here are some links for you to browse the pretties and keep up to date with the company:

Polish Post: Gothic Gala Lacquers "Moon Over Paradise," "Vallis Sanguine," and "Starling" Swatches and Review

I had the pleasure of stumbling upon a smoking discount from the indie brand Gothic Gala Lacquers a few weeks ago, and was able to make a rather large purchase without complete hurting my bank account ;)  I bought 6 colors and was given a FULL SIZE mystery freebie, for under $50 - shipping included.  Jealous yet?  Just wait...  I have 3 of those lovely polishes to show you today!

First up, we have "Moon Over Paradise:"
Outdoors, Indirect Sunlight (darn you, storm clouds!!)

Pardon the tiny air bubbles in this macro - they are NOT from the polish, they are from the crappy topcoat I used (that has now been banished from my collection).

I've been on a glitter-jelly kick lately, dunno what's come over me.  I usually stay away from them because generally, they're not only a pill to applicate, but an even bigger one to remove.  I'm glad I strayed from my usual mindset with this one, though, because it's pretty sweet!

Moon Over Paradise (the version I purchased - there is a choice between black and grey), is a black jelly base with red moons, purple dots and hexes, and a light purple/lavender diamond glitter.  Application wasn't too bad, though I found the larger pieces of glitter needed more persuading to spread out than the others.  I used three coats over my bare nail and felt that made it pretty opaque.  As with most jellies, dry time was a bit longer, so I put on 2 layers of a (crappy) quick-dry topcoat to also even it out.  Because I had 3 thick layers, I had to be pretty tender in handling anything after applying, but after about 10 minutes or so, it was all good.  It's definitely one of the easier glitter bomb jellies I have dealt with yet, and it is really pretty!!

Next up is "Vallis Sanguine:"

Outdoors in Direct Sunlight

Indoors

You all know by now how I feel about holos, so this one was impossible to pass by.  And besides, I didn't have this particular shade in a holo polish yet.  So there! :P

Vallis Sanguine is a beautiful purple/burgundy color with an amazing linear holo shine in the sunlight.  Despite being a red-based polish, I had no issues with staining - none!  Gotta love that!  Application was nice and smooth, and I put on 3 coats in the pictures above with no topcoat.  Dries very quickly to a semi-flat finish.  It's such a lovely shade indoors and outdoors!!  It is a perfect color for Fall, too :)

Last but not least is the gorgeous Limited Edition "Starling:"

Outdoors

Indoors

This polish made my jaw drop when I pulled it out of the box.  It is so much more sparkly in person than I could ever hope to capture on camera, and the colors are soooooo rich!!  By far my favorite polish by this brand, and the fact it is a limited edition and there are still a few left in her shop is astounding.  You need to get on this quick before they are gone - seriously!!

Starling is a gorgeous green and purple mutlichrome with blue and pink microflakie glitters.  Application was really smooth, and took 3 coats for it to be completely opaque.  The polish dries to a shiny finish (no topcoat used in the pics above) in under 5 minutes.  There was no staining with this polish, either, though I haven't really come across any chrome type that does.  This color is so deep and eye catching, it is definitely one to add to any collection, and another one perfect for this Fall season!

NOW are you jealous?  Because you totally should be.  I wouldn't blame you, at all ;)

I am very impressed with these three polishes by this new-to-me brand, and will most definitely be keeping it on my radar!  You would be wise to keep Gothic Gala Lacquers on yours, as well :)  Here are some links to help you do that:

Well I hope you enjoyed this polish post!  I have a new one I'm working on that will be part of a series for you - I think you will like it :D  Have a wonderful Wednesday!! <3

Polish Post: Indigo Bananas "Reign" and "Rainbow in the Dark" Swatches and Review

It is *finally* the weekend!  Dunno about you all, but I am so happy it is here.  My household could use some TLC, as well as my yard.  Pretty sure my rosebushes in the front kicked it.  They don't appreciate this 108 degree weather - and frankly, neither do I >.<  The end of monsoon season cannot come soon enough!!

Let's talk about something cooler, like two of the awesome polishes from Indigo Bananas's Summer Rains collection!  The first of the two I am featuring today is called "Reign." Check it out:

Outdoors in Direct Sunlight

Indoors Out of Sunlight

Reign is a deep garnet red with iridescent flakies that shift from orange to red to green.  Since it is more like a crelly, it takes more coats to bring it to full opacity.  I am wearing 3 in the photos, and at certain angles you can still see the whites in my nails.  I'd say 4 ought to do it, or 2 coats over a solid color base.  The application was really smooth and the flakies do not add any sort of texture, which is really nice.  Another feature I wanted to point out is that this color did not stain my nail.  In the past, reds/maroons and I do not get along so well in the staining department, so it was really refreshing to see this one was kind to my nails :)  The flakies were not a hassle to remove, either, which is usually not the case with glitters and the likes.  This polish is pretty fantastic all around!

The second color I have from this collection is "Rainbow in the Dark," and its name couldn't be more fitting!  Take a look:

Outdoors in Direct Sunlight

Indoors Out of Sunlight

I love love LOVE this color!!!  It is so eye-catching in the sunlight!!  Rainbow in the Dark is (according to the website) a black base with red and green multichrome flakies and a linear holographic finish.  In other words, it's gorgeous!  Absolutely stunning.  I was sad to take it off :(  The application was just as smooth as Reign, and it would take about the same amount of coats to achieve opacity.  Again, I am wearing 3 coats in the pictures.  Lovely, lovely polish.

I am very pleased with these two polishes, and am confident you would be, too!  Here are some websites for you of where you can link up to and purchase from the company, Indigo Bananas:
