Press Release: Kitty Polish "The Cat's Meow" August Subscription Review

*PRESS RELEASE*

Happy Weekend!

Today I have a post for you reviewing a monthly subscription box from the indie brand Kitty Polish!  Let's dive right in!

Kitty Polish was founded last December and she has some really pretty polishes!  One product she also offers is a monthly subscription called The Cat's Meow.  In this subscription are 2 full size bottles of polish, nail vinyls, and embellishments for $20 a month, and that includes shipping.  If you are not up to making a monthly commitment, she offers a one-time purchase of that current month's box for $25 (shipping included).  I think that is pretty awesome, and something you don't see much of when it comes to subscription packages!

The discount I received was for a one-time purchase of August's Cat's Meow package.  I received it in the mail earlier this week, and was very excited to get started using all the goodies inside!  Here are the products I received:

Left to Right: "#TBT," "Amazeballs," Loose Glitter, "Ocean Mist" scented topcoat, and Nail Vinyls

I have decided to format my Press Releases differently than my Polish Posts.  I will show you pictures of what I did using the items from the package, and offer you the Up's and Down's of the products.  That being said, here are photos of the nail design I created using the polishes and the glitter, but not the vinyls.

The purple color, "Amazeballs," is on all my fingers except the pointer, which is "#TBT."  I hand painted the company's logo on my pointer finger using acrylic paints, and I glued pieces of the loose glitter on my pinky nail.  I just love how complementary these two polishes are together!

The Ups:  Application was very easy and smooth.  I am wearing two coats of Amazeballs (three should make it completely opaque) and three coats of #TBT, and I experienced no bubbling or thickening with each added layer.  The polishes dried fairly quickly, too, both to a nice shiny finish.  The wear time is great, too!  Going on day 4 with no signs of chipping or tip wear yet.  The scented topcoat smells really good, and also adds a nice shine on top of the polish (though the polish doesn't really need the extra shine!).  The loose glitter was easy to work with, and added a very cute touch to the design.

The Downs:  The biggest upset with the package was the vinyls.  They arrived somewhat damaged (some of them had partially come off the paper and stuck to themselves) due to the fact it was in thinner and more malleable packaging, and USPS gives no care for packages and just shoves them and tosses them around wherever they want.  Damage aside, I personally found the decals a bit small for their design, and hard to do anything with them that would not look weird.  I do, however, have very long fingernails, and would say that the decals would look much better on someone with shorter nails. It is more of a personal preference with the vinyls more than it is a problem with them.  Also, while the topcoat smelled fabulous, the scent did not stick around too long.  It was gone by day 2, unfortunately.

Overall: The value of the subscription is worth the money you spend.  The polishes are beautiful and of great quality, and the topcoat (even though it does not last as long as I'd hoped) smells amazing!  If you are unsure of committing, I would definitely recommend trying the $25 package route to get a feel for the products first.

Polish Post: Digital Nails Extravaganza & Nail Art

I decided that, since I am showcasing 5 different polishes by the indie brand Digital Nails, but they are not all from one collection, I would spare you a huge title and just call it an extravaganza! :D  Let's get right to it!!

I have made two purchases from Digital Nails so far, and the polishes had been sitting so patiently on my desk, waiting to be swatched.  I decided it was time to do so, since they are so purty and awesome and need to be seen!  The first polish I have to show you is a glittery topcoat called "Sphinx Stinks."

Didn't take too many pictures of this one, since it is so subtle.  I decided to put it on top of the white color I was wearing to add a little sparkle to it.  Sphinx Stinks is a pretty purple/blue glitter topcoat that adds a cute shimmer to any color.  I like that this topcoat did not yellow the white underneath, as many topcoats have in the past that I've dealt with.  The application was very easy and smooth, and the polish dried pretty quick.  I would definitely wait until your solid colored polish is completely dry, or you will get air bubbles (trust me, that happened to me twice with this).

Next up is the second topper, "Pegasus Poots."

This topcoat is really lovely in person, and looks exactly as I'd expect Pegasus farts to look like.  This polish is packed full of glitter flecks of all sorts of colors.  It appears to be predominantly a pinkish purple, but there are definitely blues and greens at certain angles.  I really loved this topcoat, and will have to try it over a deep purple polish.  Application was the same as Sphinx Stinks.

The third polish came along with my first order as a freebie!  It is called "Showtime, Synergy" - check it out:

This jelly glitter color is so much more stunning in real life than my camera could capture.  Showtime, Synergy is a plum purple jelly packed full of purple, blue, red, and holographic glitters (I'm sure I'm even missing a few colors).  It is a very lovely color and really pops in the sunlight!  I used two coats over white, though on its own, it would be opaque in about 3 coats.  Application was smooth, nothing gooped up or pulled underneath as layers were added, and it dried very quickly.  I added a quick topcoat for extra shine and to really made the glitter sparkle.  I'll definitely be ordering a full-size bottle of this color!

Next up is another glitter called "Dark Matter."

Dark Matter is a gorgeous blurple jelly jam-packed full of glitters!  I am wearing one coat over a dark blue polish in the pictures above.  That's right, ONE COAT and look at all that glitter!!!  Love love love it!!  Easy application, it spread out nicely so there were no spots of clumped glitter.  There's nothing bad I can really say about it, the polish is just awesome!  The only downside is taking the polish off, but every glitter polish is a pain in the toosh to remove.

Last, but most certainly not least, is my favorite of the bunch - "Real Life Mad Scientist," inspired by Nikola Tesla.  I'll explain the polish to you before the pictures, so you know what you're looking at below.  This polish is a thermal that is white as snow when it is warm/heated, and various shades of blue when it is cold.  I decided to paint a design of a Tesla coil as an homage to him, because the scientist is just awesome.  I highly recommend looking him up if you are unfamiliar with this amazing scientist.

This polish is not only a thermal, it is also glow in the dark!  I recently discovered (when I was taking the pictures) that it can be two different glow in the dark colors, depending on its temperature!  Funny story - I kind of forgot it was glow in the dark when I purchased it, and only realized it as I was putting my kids down for their nap, and freaked out at this glowing green thing attached to my fingertips :P  Anywho, the polish will glow green when the polish is in its warm state, but blue when it is colder.  SO COOL!!  Check out some photos below:

This is what the nails looked like after I dunked the tips in ice cold water:

AWESOME, right?!!  Application was great, took 3 coats for complete opacity and each went on smoothly, and dried in seconds to a matte finish.  There is glitter and silver flakies to the polish that can really only be seen when you add a topcoat.  The only negative thing I could find about the polish is that it chips pretty easily when you wear it on its own with no base or topcoat.  Now, this could be different for everyone - I have ridiculously smooth nails naturally, which could very well contribute to the polish not sticking very well to my nails and chipping.  Just keep it in mind :)

And there you have it!  Lots of great polishes from another great indie maker!  Her shop is currently on vacation mode, but it looks like she will be back for a short period on the 25th of this month.  You can sign up for an email alert when her shop is open (you won't get spammed with a ton of emails, JUST the one letting you know when she's open again).  Here are some links for you to keep posted:

Polish Post: Marbles for Polish "Mermaid Summer" and "The Operative" Swatches and Review

Fridays are so darn wonderful, aren't they?  Unless you are someone whose Friday is a Tuesday, then I guess Fridays aren't so darn great - but hey!  Tuesday is only 4 days away! :D

How about a quick polish post?  Today I'm featuring polish from the indie company Marbles for Polish.  She is not only a blogger, but a polish maker, too!  And she has some wonderful colors!  Check out "Mermaid Summer" (middle, ring, and thumb) and "The Operative" (pointer and pinky):

Outdoors

Indoors

She held a nail art contest a few weeks ago that I won and part of my prize packet was my choice of a full-size polish from her shop.  I chose Mermaid Summer because I just loved the color and the subtle holo.  I am very glad I got this polish, because it is even prettier in person!  It is a light teal/aqua color with a very light holo shimmer in the sunlight.  Two coats brought it to complete opacity that dried with a semi-matte finish (I have a topcoat on each of the Mermaid Summer nails to bring out the holo shimmer).  Application was smooth, though I found I needed to apply the polish in smaller amounts because if I had too much on the brush, it flooded my cuticles.  It dried very quickly - I didn't even need a quick-dry topcoat!  It was completely dry to the touch after a mere 10 minutes, which is fantastic for a busy mom like me :D  Great polish!

The second color I received as another part of my prize (she included several minis of other colors in her collection).  The Operative is a neat black jelly with red, gold, and blue glitter.  I layered two thin coats on my pointer and pinky nails over Mermaid Summer, and I think it looks pretty good with it!  I'm not a huge fan of jelly glitter polishes, but for those that are, this is a great color to add to your collection.  Same smooth application as Mermaid Summer, and this polish dried just as quickly to a shiny finish - no topcoat necessary!

I am very pleased with these two colors from Marbles for Polish!  If you want to snag a few of her lovely polishes for yourself, here are some links for you to do so!

Polish Post: LynBDesigns "In Charge of Fun," "However, Whatever, Whenever," "Fangirl," and "Teal the Cows Come Home" Swatches and Review

I think that is the longest post title I have written yet!  Phew!

Today I have 4 beautiful polishes to share with you by the indie brand LynBDesigns.  Let's start with "In Charge of Fun:"

Outdoors

Indoors

In Charge of Fun is part of her "Meet Me at the Abbey" Downton Abbey collection.  It is a pretty light green with a pink/orange shimmer that really stands out in the sunlight.  The polish has a bit of a thicker formula, and seems to have a very slight texture as well that, at some angles, looks like it could be tiny bubbles.  Because the formula is a little thicker, you also need to make sure you wait for each coat to dry before adding another or it will drag the polish underneath.  I used 3 coats in the photos above, and a clear topcoat to bring out the shimmer.  Wear time is pretty great!  This polish lasted about 2 days before I started to see a slight wear at the fingertips, but no chipping the full 3 days I had it on.  Despite its thick formula, this is a good polish!  I would recommend even trying it as a topper, since it is thin enough - may look pretty awesome as a topcoat over a dark green :)

Next up is "However, Whatever, Whenever," another polish from her Downton Abbey collection:

Outdoors

 Indoors

However, Whatever, Whenever is my second favorite of this bunch.  It is a gunmetal color that is a beautiful linear holographic color in the sunlight.  The formula wasn't as thick as In Charge of Fun, so it was a bit easier to work with.  Two coats brought it to complete opacity, with a clear topcoat to add a nice shine to it.  Wear time is the same as In Charge of Fun.  If you dig dark silvery holographic polishes, this one is right up your Alley (see what I did there?).

Moving on, we have "Fangirl" from her "The Doctor Is In" collection:

Outdoors

Indoors

Fangirl is such a lovely light pink color with a pearlescent-blue/teal shimmer.  The description on her site makes the polish to be something a bit more colorful than what the polish looks like to me in person.  I don't mind because I really like the color I got, but if you are buying based on the store description, I feel it is a lot less colorful than it is made out to be.  Regarding formula, this polish seems to have the same type as In Charge of Fun - a bit on the thick side, needs to be completely dry in between coats, and slightly textured.  I used 3 coats in the pictures above with a top coat for added shine.  Wear time was great - I went 3 days without noticing any damage.  Overall, it is a very cute color and a nice polish!

Last, but certainly not least, is a Limited Edition polish called, "Teal the Cows Come Home:"

Oh. My. GOSH!!!  Teal the Cows Come Home is gorgeous!!!  This polish was my absolute favorite of the bunch - and it was a freebie!  I received it as a bonus for purchasing 3 full-size polishes.  This polish is a beautiful metallic teal color with a scattered holographic effect in direct sunlight.  The formula is a little thin.  I used 3 coats in the photos with one clear topcoat, since the polish dries semi-matte and I wanted that holo to really stand out.  Application is smooth as pudding, and I noticed worn tips at the end of day 2, so wear time is decent (keep in mine, I am a mom of two toddlers, so I'm using my hands a lot during the day, affecting the wear of my polish).  Teal the Cows Come Home is a must-have!!!  And the best part?  It's a mere $6 on her site right now!  I suggest you snag one up before this limited edition is no-more.

Overall I'd say these polishes are pretty good.  The brand is not one of the best I've had, but it is far from the worst.  Her prices are very reasonable, making it worth picking up a few polishes from her (make sure one of those is Teal the Cows Come Home - seriously, beautiful color!).  Here are some linkages for you:
